Ok I got one of these Raid 5 servers and I thought I would let everyone know what problems I had where.
First I have never used Cpanel until 5 days ago so there is bound to be some arguement about this.
First thing I did was upgrade Cpanel to the latest STable release Cpanel 7 Build 59 or something.
Actually first thing is switch your Theme True Blue is Easiest to read the menu on. The stock is hard to find anything.
Ok Select which database version to use. I am using 4.0.13 the DB works super fast but I get hiccups in PHPMyadmin(Someone will have to post a how to update for that)
Now that Cpanel is up to date log into shell
Edit /usr/local/lib/php.ini
enable_dl = on to OFF doesn't work with multithread
include_path = ".:/usr/local/lib/php:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib"
restart apache
cd to /scripts
type ./easyapache
select option 6 Click exit once selected to move on"little confusing"
Setup apache like you want BUT DO NOT SELECT PHPSUEXEC its not supported by php 4.3.2 and if you select it your system will be downgraded to 4.3.1 php and you will have security holes.
let that run it does a wonderful job of updating EVERYTHING to the latest release.
now noone ever says how to register for up2date for those reading this from the command line up2date -register follow the prompts
now type up2date --hardware this will update your hardware profile I think most skip this step and that is why they have problems with up2date.
now type up2date --configure line 24 Clear it and let up2date update your kernal since redhat now knows you have a raid system.
now type up2date -i
Kernal went from .12 to .20 and my speed doubled for my auction site. NO HICCUPS AT ALL.
Installing other packages if you have a package you want to install go to CPANEL and request they add it their list. To install RPMS (like I needed image magik) All I add to do was click that RPM in the Interface and it was done.
The biggest problems I had were getting the resolver setup properly (first for rackshack) Then for my own DNS.
Also when I added IP's to the system they didn't get updated for Redhat and had to added manually. This still doesnt' function and will be a source of grief for rackshack until its fixed.
I would suggest that RS update their image for a newly release server this image was terribly out of date and would have been a easy target for hackers.
