I have just taken out one of the gret deals at the planet and replaced an old unmetered server, the old server has webmin intalled and configured with an ftp client, I had someone set it up for me on these forums but hes no longer around.
If you are familiar with webmin then this should be a very quick job and imagine it would take you less than an hour, probably 10 minutes I will desccribe my problem just so you know what the job is about webmin is installed on the new server, I have installed the proftpd module, I have imported the users from old server that has webmin insalled (older but doesnt matter) problem is that when I try and login via ftp I get the error "password not accpted unable to login" the thing is the password is correct as I even changed it in webmin just to be sure, I have been on this most of last night and today and cant get anywhere, any one used to webmin and think they can do this? please pm me if you can, I need this done asap and please dont be stupid in your pricing, if yiou are familiar with webmin it should take no time at all regards wayne |

Our Advanced Services group can give you a quote on installing webmin. If you submit a ticket and PM the number to me, I'll escalate it to them.

wayne, make sure what is running is proftpd and not something else.
And at the same time that is the version that is installed by webmin (different way that handles the user). And depending on the version you installed of webmin you need to create the account since it doesn't use the system accounts -------------------- Automatic restore in process.... failed Loading remote brain.... succeeded w w w . t o t a l s e r v e r s o l u t i o n s . c o m Tss -- Live Support! Hi theuruguayan
I know proftpd is enabled and working in webmin as if I disable it in webmin I cannnot even find the ftp server when trying to connect, but when I enable it then it finds it and tries to connect but get failed login. however I had to install proftpd via ssh as when trying to install via webmin moduls it said couldnt find the rpm noting to do so I insalled it via ssh and now its in the servers section of webmin and I can enable/disable as mentioned above. thanks wayne |

try to login and check the /var/log/message you seem to be missing something integrating the user accounts from webmin side with the proftpd install.

thanks for the info theuruguayan but I have since found out that the ftp does actualy work, the problem is that if I login as root or a user that has access to / then I can login BUT if I login as a user that is sent to /home/username it fails.
when I login as root I see all the folder except /home and I think it is becuase I setup the /home dir on the second drive via webmin and all works fine in there and via ssh but not seen on ftp. I have just rebooted the server via webmin control panel and tried to login again but still not able to with normal user but can with / user but still not seeing the /home dir when loged in via ftp but of can see it via ssh and webmin? any sugestions now that I have figured out that ftp does actualy work but just cant see the /home dir thanks in advance wayne |
