Nice to see everyone at the planet do such a great job through this.

/me observes the exterior cameras... Kevin throwing branches, dumping buckets of water from the rooftop, waving sheet metal in the air (course how he made the cows fly...we'll never know for sure BUT it looks good enough for YouTube! I thought I was just out of sight of all of the exterior cameras... I'll have to review the tapes to find a better place to hide. With regards to the cows flying, a magician never reveals his secrets. -------------------- |

H1 and H2 are still running on generator power. Our fuel levels have been replenished by our suppliers, and we will continue to operate on generator power until utility power is fully restored and extensively tested. I'm not aware of an ETA on the utility power repair, so I'll let you know as soon as I hear any official updates.

Last night around 8:30 PM, H2 was returned to utility power and all systems are stable. H1 will be switched back to utility power as soon as we are able to test the restored local utility power grid from both the upstairs and downstairs data centers. Facilities staff will remain on-site at H1 until utility power is completely restored.

H1 Phase 1 is back on utility power, and Phase 2 remains on generator power. The phases receive different utility power feeds, and the grid that feeds Phase 2 has not been restored by the power company's response/repair team. We have an ample fuel supply to continue powering Phase 2 by generator as long as it is necessary. Along with millions of other Houston-area residents and businesses, we don't have any official confirmation about when the power company will be working to restore that grid.
When Phase 2's utility power is restored, we will test it, transfer power from generator to utility power and provide an update. -------------------- |

Isn't it nice to say, hurricane? meh, we just switched to internal power and didn't skip a beat. Just another day.

I'm happy to report we can call this thread finalized.
A report came across my desk today that utility power has been fully restored to our H1 data center. Our H1 power generation systems have been placed back in stand-by mode since they are no longer needed. H2 has been on utility power for quite some time. Best regards! -------------------- Eric Bush

The issue of inventory is one that is not easily addressed. In order to guarantee the ability to select data centers or cities, we'd have to have every server in every category available at every data center. Because we've got an extensive catalog of servers of varying ages and types (some rack-mount, some tower), we can't guarantee that servers will be available in a given location. With a longer lead-time, it may be easier to accommodate the request by shipping hardware between the two cities, but for the sake of speed in provisioning new orders, servers are assigned on the first box available meeting the hardware requirements. Sorry to drag up an old thread, but I wanted to address this from a customer point of view. What would be ideal in my view would be for the planet to have a real-time inventory system, so on the order form for any given server the default radio button checked would be first available but you'd also get a choice of where a server would go based on the realtime inventory system: [x] First available datacenter [ ] (12) available in Houston 1 [ ] (0) available in Houston 2 [ ] (7) available in Dallas 2 [ ] (0) available in Dallas 4 [ ] (0) available in Dallas 5 [ ] (0) available in Dallas 6 (if there were less than 2 it could print a disclaimer that inventory is low and not gauranteed or may cause delay, like retailers do when you buy computer hardware and inventory is low) -------------------- |
