With the Hurricane season in full swing, and several storms with the potential to affect the data centers, can ThePlanet please elaborate on their current level of preparedness and contingency plans in case a hurricane strikes in the Houston area?

Well, all of The Planet's DC's can withstand up to category 4 hurricanes, feature raised flooring and backup power, not to mention several ISP on different types of lines.

This is actually a very good question, since storms of this nature are always on everyone's mind. Our typical preparation process involves a review of the internal processes and procedures that we already have in place. We've actually been watching Gustav even before it became an item of interest. So, as you can see, we don't wait until a storm is on the way to prepare. Our procedures are too long to document here, but if you have a specific question, post up and we'll do our best to answer it.

Our data centers are always in a state of readiness rain or shine. Like everyone else who prepares for a storm, we're taking steps like securing things on the outside of our data center which are normally there for employee use, etc. In addition to our concern about our facility, we are also taking steps to make sure our personnel are safe.

Rest assured that we're keeping a close eye on things and we will activate different parts of our preparation plans as weather conditions dictate. If you are curious about what we do on a proactive basis, head on over to our blog and check out:

Hey Guys,

Hope you guys remain safe during Gustav's destruction. He's getting stronger and a category 4 as of now. He's touching ground on Monday around 2 P.M EDT. Be Safe

Just a quick update from the Houston Data Centers regarding our storm preparations.

We still have a vigilant watch on the current weather conditions and continue to react as conditions dictate. We are well ahead of the curve in regard to preparations for hurricane Gustav.

Our facilities team has already added an extra level of protection to our data centers in the Houston area. In addition, we have brought in extra reserves of fuel for our power generation systems.

Our management team is in constant communications with our staff to make sure their safety needs are met.

While we can't guarantee frequent updates on the forum since we're busy taking care of daily business, we'll do our best to keep you posted.

We appreciate the best wishes we've been getting! We're ready!

Respectfully,

Eric Bush

All Dallas facilities are prepared to support the Houston data centers and the NOC in addition to the preparations down near the coast.
