It would also be nice to have a few datacenter images that affiliates could easily use (e.g. a couple photos down the rows of servers.) Stock photography is often used for this, but it adds a lot to have a few real images to use: these are the world class datacenters where our servers are located and this is this is why we choose the Planet and recommend them to you for your server needs is a lot more powerful for fellow aspiring geeks than a stock photo we can do by ourselves.

That is a good idea. We have some DC pictures from our blog actually -- not that these are easy to find: http://blog.theplanet.com/flickr/album/721...ta-Centers.html http://blog.theplanet.com/flickr/album/721...ta-Centers.html These images seem more the type suited for publishing than most of the others: http://blog.theplanet.com/flickr/album/721...Cold-Aisle.html http://blog.theplanet.com/flickr/album/721...-Hot-Aisle.html http://blog.theplanet.com/flickr/album/721...tors-at-H2.html With those as a starting place, what changes or other types of pictures did you have in mind? (Other than just more refined shots meant to be published by a third party, etc -- although the style shown could possibly work for a walkthrough/tour type setup.) -------------------- Rick Greer

Yes these photos are exactly on target. I realize the name of the game in web 2.0 is probably abstraction, but I'm still a bit of a web 1.0 guy and when explaining why I recommend servers at the Planet vs. closer to home (or even in this State) I like the images of the hot aisle and cold aisle showing scale of infrastructure as well as a rack of servers for the higher end. I remember at one point seeing a good wide angle image too showing many rows of servers as well, but I can't locate it now. I think a few of this type of picture helps immediately separate the wheat from the chaff, instead of looking like a generic affiliate link page it would allow us to quickly establish the credibility -- our servers are here and so should yours be.

Yes, I do agree on the better rack server / private rack / big custom infrastructure images.
I'll work on getting some of what we have worked into good links in ShareASale -- probably a few normal banners with backgrounds around servers/DC's with some text along the lines of what you are talking about doing, and also some some pure DC images like those above. (We might need to take a few more shots we can add later as well.) Thanks for the ideas! -------------------- Rick Greer
