I have received calls this morning from three different customers who claimed the server was down. When I tested, I found that it was up and responding well. I had them try to access the site, and then try to PING it, while I was on the phone and they still were unable to get through. The PING requests timed out, even pinging using the ip address itself.
The common thread with all three of these clients is that they are all roadrunner customers. One of them subsequently switched his computer to another ISP he uses and got through just fine, but back on roadrunner he still got nothing. I called a roadrunner customer I know and they were unable to get to any sites on the server. I tried it myself throguh my satellite service and a dial-up account, and got access with no problem. These roadrunner customers are in Maine and New York. I have not been in contact with anyone outside of these to states to have them try it. Has anyone else out there been experiencing this issue this today? It's been going on since about 5AM EST and is still an issue now. Thank you, Ron. |

I just used NX to get to my home server (which is on RoadRunner NYC) and browsed to a bunch of sites. I haven't had any problems today. If you want to let me know some of your sites, I'd be happy to check them out.
HOWEVER, I HAVE had this problem before. I had narrowed it down to a DNS issue, so I no longer use the DNS servers associated with RoadRunner. You might want to check with your clients to see if they can get to the server using alternate DNS servers. Good luck. --Alden |

Ron,
I can get to all of these in a browser through RoadRunner NYC. My guess is that it's their DNS servers. Can you ask your client to switch and see if that works? You can use the OpenDNS servers (see www.opendns.com), if you don't know which servers to use. --Alden |

Thanks for that Alden, my client can't get to my IP 66.98.244.92 either, so I'm assuming that it's not DNS related?

Thanks for that Alden, my client can't get to my IP 66.98.244.92 either, so I'm assuming that it's not DNS related? I guess not. But I can get to it from my RoadRunner account. Odd. However, I found this at help.rr.com: Road Runner will be conducting Planned Maintenance on the IP network. Subscribers in the affected area(s) may have no connection to the Internet or latency/slow connectivity during this maintenance window. Our engineers are working quickly to complete this maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. The same message appears for both NYC and Augusta, Maine. |

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. The same message appears for both NYC and Augusta, Maine. You know, I had seen that notice this morning but discounted it because there was no date associated with it, while the other service messages had dates. but, the language of the notice ("Our engineers ARE working...") suggests that it is a current message. I pointed this out to one RR user who called and they were a little hard to convince because they swore they could get to "everything else" on the internet except their site on my server, there fore my server MUST be down. Oh, well, I guess at this point it's just a matter of waiting for RoadRunner to work out their problems. I did send the nameserver info to a person in NY who is a little more tech savvy than some of the others. I'll let you know if that works or not. If it does, I'll suggest it to the others. Thank you, alden. And MrBT, it's good to know that RR isn't just picking on me this morning. Ron. |

I have confirmed that it is now working for my clients in Maine, too. That's great news. No more phone calls telling me my server is "down".

And those notifications are never very helpful (because, as you mentioned, they're not dated), but perhaps, that was it. --Alden |

there seemed to have been a problem in the North East . The connection was timing out between a a particular level 3 router in washington and above.net
fortunately i was able to talk people through a tracert from a server in california (which worked) so they could see that it wasnt on my end |

Hmmm, I like how when I call in the NOC denies any problems every time. "No sir, we'd know if we were having routing issues."

The problem with this sort of problem is that the only people that can actually do anything are the backbone level providors and they wont talk to you directly unless you are a customer.

Best part of that is saying..."Well...now you know" lol You have to give them your customer number to speak with them. I don't want a nasty note on my account. -------------------- |
