First off, I don't know if this is the appropriate place to post this or not. So if it isn't, please move it (and notify me please).
Now, I have been an active member in the I365/BF2 community for nearly two years now and I have played almost exclusively on the I365 24/7 Sharqi server the whole time. Through this, I have been involved (not a member of) with Kevin (klaude), BFROE, and ROC and have had the pleasure of getting to know a lot of new people while having fun and I feel that this is the general consensus of the BF2 community. ROC has been doing a good job of keeping the servers running and clean for the entire time they have had administrative privileges for the servers. However, it is now known that no more support will be provided for Cortex and I do not know if you understand how much this affects people. Granted, it is not the end of the world because it's a video game, but I365 had, hands down, the best public servers for BF2 and there is hardly any supporting evidence to refute that statement. Rules of Combat has told the community that the 24/7 Wake and 24/7 Mashtuur servers crashed and will now cease to exist. The 24/7 Sharqi server (the most popular one) is now empty (0/64 players) every time I check and I attribute this to the fact that no more support is being offered for Cortex. Contrary to popular belief, BF2 is not dead (although not as thriving as it once was) and there needs to be some good and fun servers left to play on. I understand that as The Planet grows, changes need to be made and sacrifices are sometimes included, but I have had a lot of fun over the years I've played BF2 and it has been almost entirely on I365 servers. I believe that it is safe to say this is the general thought of the public too. Therefore, I urge you, as a dedicated gamer, to not drop support for Cortex. Please keep it up and running. Thank you for your time, Jabomb9 Jay |

My guess is that the cortex business simply didn't generate enough extra revenue filling their racks to justify the staff costs necessary to maintain it.
They probably figure they can fill the same racks with all the servers they want to sell now that they've merged the two biggest server providers into one, so then instead of a mechanism to boost server sales before, now the revenue was only the $10/month/server extra fee which probably just wasn't enough to hire sufficient staff to continually maintain everything. -------------------- |

You do realize those free servers were only to fill contractual obligations for them to be able to have ranked servers available for I365 server customers?
If they arent continuing to support Cortex for customers paying hundreds of dollars a month, why would they continue to run servers that cost them money? |

Thank you for your time, Jabomb9 Jay I think you need to get your facts straight. What you really want in those servers to stay online, not Cortex to come back because I can promise you it won't based on TP recent behaviour. Cortex really left months ago, it just not that news is actually reaching the front lines. If TP is going to drop their Ranked Server Provider status than they are no longer obliged to host servers for EA anymore as their contract dictated. I can recommend other high quality servers for you to play on if you wish. -------------------- R.I.P Insomnia365

If you're just looking for a place to play, many clan servers are better environments to play in than the freebie servers mandated under the Ranked Hosting Agreement. Heck, join a clan - there are still a few good ones. Lots of lousy clans, but still a few good ones. As for Cortex, that ship has sailed, and I would expect all i365 servers to go offline at any time. |

If ThePlanet wants to continue to sell Ranked BF2 Slots then they are under contractual obligation to have so many public ranked servers running.
There are very few Clan servers that are run better than the Insomnia365 Public servers. The Insomnia365 Public BF2 servers are some of the most cheat free servers on the net. ROC while adming these servers have taken down over 700 individual cheaters. I do not call them hackers, buying someone elses code does not a hacker make. Working with PSB and PBBans there are over 800 GUID's on their combined ban list caught on the Insomnia365 servers. Anyone that thinks that the Insomnia365 servers are run like your average public server (Wild West) has not been on them after ROC took them over. Kevin before he left was constantly giving high praise to the job ROC has done. Zack has been doing the same thing. Cortex is officially EOD,d the servers can be maintained through the FTP access. Cortex while useful is not the only tool to run a server. -------------------- |

This should be moved to the freebie server crap section as those of us who are paying customers here really dont give a crap about ROC patting themselves on the back or whether or not the free servers stay or go.

QUOTE If ThePlanet wants to continue to sell Ranked BF2 Slots then they are under contractual obligation to have so many public ranked servers running. Actually they don't sell it anymore. Also providers only had to host the free BF2 servers for one year. QUOTE This should be moved to the freebie server crap section as those of us who are paying customers here really dont give a crap about ROC patting themselves on the back or whether or not the free servers stay or go. Well roc told everyone to "flood" these forums to save the servers so guess we can expect more of this. http://rulesofcombat.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17 QUOTE ABN_RGR For those that want to keep the Public servers I suggest you flood ThePLanet forums with "Keep the Public servers up" QUOTE Syntax2112 Start your floods below ! http://forums.theplanet.com/index.php?showforum=143 http://forums.theplanet.com/index.php?showtopic=89217 There YOUR servers people. Take them back !! But please be diplomatic while posting. No need to get to carried away ! Seems roc is afraid of losing their free bf2 servers, teamspeak and the cortex box they have at 74.52.108.50. http://www.game-monitor.com/search.php?sea...amp;type=server |

I am speaking entirely as a forum user, and not as mod, or an employee of The Planet...
Correct me if i'm wrong, but this entire thread is based solely on the fact that a few people are afraid the free gaming servers might go away? You think the solution is to "flood" the forums with threads regarding the free servers? Personally... I think that is a HORRIBLE idea, if anything it would make the situation worse, you are drawing attention to something that may otherwise be left alone. Realistically, I doubt the servers are going anywhere if they are necessary to continue to house ranked servers. . -------------------- "The average person thinks he isn't." -- Father Larry Lorenzoni
