 What IP's should I set in /etc/resolv.conf?, I don't want ot host my own DNS |

I'm only going to have one website on my server and I do not want to host my own DNS. My welcome e-mail told me to set my DNS to ns1.theplanet.com and ns2.theplanet.com but what IP addresses should I put for the resolvers? By default my server had 207.218.192.39 and 207.218.192.38, those seem to point to ev1servers.net though.
If it is possible I would like to use ns1.ev1servers.net/ns2.ev1servers.net as my DNS because the site I'm moving onto this server is currently pointing at those nameservers. When I ordered this new server though they set it up through the orbit login instead of the servercommand.net that my old server was on so does that mean I have to use theplanet.com nameservers now? |

The email means, if you want us to host the DNS information for a particular zone, to change the primary and secondary nameservers to ns1/ns2.theplanet.com(done at your registrar). You then let us know, and we create the zone on ns1/ns2.theplanet.com.
(note: the same goes for ns1/ns2.ev1servers.net as well for legacy ev1servers customers) This does _not_ mean to change your resolvers in /etc/resolv.conf. -------------------- "The average person thinks he isn't." -- Father Larry Lorenzoni

Thanks. So as long as I change the nameservers via my registrar and submit a DNS change request with the planet, then I won't have any problems if I just leave the /etc/resolv.conf as it was by default, like this:
CODE nameserver 207.218.192.39
nameserver 207.218.192.38 |

So why do we have to have the DNS pointed over first to ns1.theplanet.com before you will add it? Just seems like that causes downtime for people that have domains somewhere else already running. Am I not correct if you added it first than we could have everything setup on the server before hand so when it propagates there is no downtime?

So jjhurani said "correct" to use this in /etc/resolv.conf:
nameserver 207.218.192.39 nameserver 207.218.192.38 which are ns{1,2}.ev1server.net ... but I've always used nameserver 67.19.0.10 nameserver 67.19.1.10 which are theplanet equivelents. Are either recommended over the other now? |
