I went ahead and submitted a ticket for COD4 as instructed by Planet Staff in other posts. The reasoning to do this was to let support know this was a request and that hopefully by others doing this it would help determine maybe the order of things getting done on Cortex. (I'm assuming)

But here is the reponse i got:

(took out the support persons name) Tuesday November 6th, 2007; 11:29 PM CST
We are unable to install Call of Duty 4 at this time. We do not support it and there has not been a release date made available to us. Let us know if we can be of any further assistance, thank you.

What is the purpose of me submitting a ticket if all you guys are going to do is give a half a$$ answer? The game was released already. To top it off, when i submitted the ticket i didnt get confirmation via email. I went to look at the ticket and it was closed. I had to go find it in the closed tickets to see the reponse. I never received an email saying it was opened or closed. It just like an response was put in there so I could not see it! (and yes i verified my email address to make sure that wasnt the issue)

So what gives guys?

I understand you guys are under alot of pressure but why suggest something and then completely ignore it?

Is it time for us to move on and seek a provider that will atleast respond to our requests in proper fashion?

I got the same thing !!
Read my post in the Cortex area.
THis is not good as COD 4 is number 6 on the list of games to be added.

THings look bad for COrtex and anyone who uses it.

This is a shame and should not be.

Plus when you put in a ticket you are told that to add cod4 will cost extra $$$....WTF ???

Take a look at the other posts in the forum. Cortex sounds to be essentially EOL depending on who you talk with. I really doubt at this point any new games are going to be added. An official decision on this is a few weeks away.

Uhh they aren't going to add anything...that isn't breaking news.

http://forums.theplanet.com/index.php?showtopic=88996

Don't have high expectations.

BTW our COD4 server is up, but alas we left here fully knowing we wouldn't have a COD4 server up right after release.

How did you get COD4 on your dedicated? I am really dreading the upload of 6.31 gigs to mine at this point but I don’t know of any other way.

Any help or insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

You have to upload it from a local install to put it in your dedicated server.

Those of us who are using other control panels have no problems running it. Or if you have remote access to your dedicated server, it is not a problem at all to install and run (other than the need to upload the huge files).

Yeah i dont have an issue installing and managing it, i just hate to upload the files. It would be nice if IW would offer a link to just transfer it from dedicated to dedicated.

Once I do upload it, it will make it available to those of you that have not gotten it on your dedi yet... For a limited time of course icon_wink.gif

I was just about to make a similar post. If anyone needs the files for a dedicated server installation feel free to PM me and I'll send you a link. I've got things uploaded onto my servers.

Activision may not be too happy with these posts. You may want to keep this stuff to PMs and not open in the forums.

Retransmitted and reposted from other threads here for the benefit of all:
_______________

First, lets not mix my words here. What I told everyone was that submitting a ticket to place your request in the queue was better handled by submitting a ticket and not posting here. Cortex DEV and support do not come here to look for customer request of new games to be added - makes sense due to the fact that this is a forum and not a ticket response system.

Second, as for the adding of games, until the final communication comes from our management and communications team, what I was told, is support is still in tact and remaining the same regardless of any premature announcements and discussions that have gone out to date. I wish the communications would have never went out - no, not to hide things from any one or to be deceptive (another nice little twist on things that many have tried to inject here). I wish it would have never went out as there was NO completion of thought around what to do, what to support, how to do it, who will do it, what will do, etc, etc. The easiest thing for any company to do is say "Hey, we just will EOL a product or service." The hardest thing to do is to come up with the right operational procedure of how to continue to maintain a customer base that does stay and get grandfathered in under a product. Call it an exclusive access if you will or whatever you want. Yeah, I understand that it does not feel exclusive because responses are slow to no responses and the support team has a mix bag of responses to customers - NEVER a good thing. But again, that reitterates the fact that we STILL have no official plan to release to the public and the information that came out about the EOL should have NEVER been released in such a premature state. So until then, we have plenty of speculation and personal perspective (neither of which has any rooting or grounding in what the real answers WILL be) and thus people are making decisions based off of that.

Third and as DougK94 so nicely put it, many people are ruling out the options of just staying right where you are and just changing the control panel you use. Yes its possible that other control panels are not as good or for that matter other services do not give you the ranking that you got here. Totally understandable. But not EVERYONE is going to fall into that category. Many people made the choice to ditch ranked servers due to the inability to have root access to everything and went unranked here and are just as happy. Others have left and went to other companies and that is fine too. Everyone will have to make their own decisions based upon what makes the servers and services provided by The Planet most valuable. If you can't find one thing valuable about the choices you have in front of you, then you will make your decisions accordingly to take care of your user base and business.

With all of that being said, I NEVER like nor want to see anyone go away nor go away mad. I have tried to be as helpful as I can during these times and issues and even in this premature EOL announcement. And for that matter I'll continue to be as helpful as possible. So, for anyone that needs a ticket looked at or an issue escalated, please feel free to shoot me a PM and I'll have a look to see what I can do.

Kindest and Best Regards to all!

I think I responded to all the PMs, but if you didn't get one just shoot me another one. Packing the files is taking a bit longer than I had anticipated... (FYI: there are 7 parts to the download)

Edit: in case anyone is wondering, the engine appears to consume about 356MB of VM (170MB of normal memory), is quite bandwidth friendly, uses 0% processor power at idle, can be queried with a standard Quake 3 arena query on port 28960, and can be started with the standard Q3-style command line:
iw3mp.exe +set dedicated 2 +exec server.cfg +map_rotate

Gotchas: the server doesn't seem to like to have a map_rotate at the bottom of the config so you have to set it on the command line

Edit2: If the server complains about a missing d3dx9_34.dll just copy the one from your own computer into your server's C:\Windows\System32

I submitted a ticket towards the addition of tf2 and cod4 for cortex. , heres what I got.

I have a huge need for 2 cod4 and 2 tf2 servers on my box. I was hoping that some how you guys can actually help us with this setup since its not loaded on cortex yet and wont be for what seems forever. I dont know what it will take for u guys to realize ur losing buisness because u cant host new games. Your servers are by far some of the best hosted in the US. You need to keep i365 and cortex alive for us players and competitors that actually care about performance.

Our developers are working hard on offering support for Team Fortress 2 and Call of Duty. We hope to have support for these games very soon. However, installation of game servers falls under system management and is the responsibility of the end user. If you wish for our assistance, we can escalate this issue to our Professional Services department for a quote. Rates start at $150/hr with a minimum of one hour. No work will be performed until you agree to the quote. How would you like to proceed?
