Hello I am getting the Intel Xeon 3060 Dual Core Conroe server from ThePlanet and I was wondering which OS would be the most suitable for a Cpanel WebHosting server between:

CentOS Enterprise Linux, Version 4 - Mo. Fee/Setup Fee: ($0.00/$0.00)
Redhat Enterprise Linux - x64, Version 4 - Mo. Fee/Setup Fee: ($0.00/$0.00)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Version 4 - Mo. Fee/Setup Fee: ($0.00/$0.00)
CentOS Enterprise Linux - x64, Version 4 - Mo. Fee/Setup Fee: ($0.00/$0.00)
Centos Enterprise Linux - x86_64, Version 5 - Mo. Fee/Setup Fee: ($0.00/$0.00)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Version 5 - Mo. Fee/Setup Fee: ($0.00/$0.00)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux - x86_64, Version 5 - Mo. Fee/Setup Fee: ($0.00/$0.00)
Centos Enterprise Linux, Version 5 - Mo. Fee/Setup Fee: ($0.00/$0.00)

What are the differences between RedHat and CentOs and between 32bits and 64bits version.

Thank you!

I'd recommend Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Version 5 32bit. Once RHEL v6 comes out, v4 will be EOL'd.

Unless you have a specific reason to go with 64bit, such as more than 4GB of memory, I wouldn't bother with it.

If you choose RHEL v5, do you need to buy a license from RedHat in order to get updates?

For the most part, we handle the licensing fee's. Some servers lines might show Mo. Fee/Setup Fee: ($0.00/$0.00) which means we're taking care of it, some of the lower lines might show a licensing fee. For the most part, a sales person should be able to give you the exact details on what lines do and do not have licensing fees.

Just to be clear - no you do not. Any OS you order from ThePlanet is completely legitimate and has full access to updates.

It would be nice if cPanel supported a 64 bit OS.

I would say RHEL with cPanel.

Now the tough question is what control panel should you use with cpanel..? wink.gif

I prefer the vi control panel on Gentoo... but we don't support Gentoo. icon_sad.gif
