I purchased a server a few days ago (with CentOS 5), and in the NAS backup instructions, it demonstrates how to mount the NAS backup using smbmount. However, on CentOS 5, the smbmount tool is unavailable (and it doesn't seem that there are any available packages which provide it). Additionally, smbfs is unrecognized as a FS type by mount. The solution I used was to use 'mount.cifs', which seems to come default on the CentOS 5 installs. The parameters are the exact same as smbmount, and it seems to work just fine. It'd probably be a good idea if instructions for CentOS 5 users were provided in the NAS backup instructions.

Most definitely, I'm not sure if the verbiage was ever changed since we started offering Cent OS 5. I'll bring that to their attention. Thanks!

yum install samba-client

I've already got samba-client installed on my machine, and both 'mount -t smbfs' and 'smbmount' don't work.

Oh yea, I forgot. Sorry about that. That command has gone away for CentOS 5. NFS is not a Windows file share and for some reason it wasn't registering. Anyway:

cifs is the better way to mount the partition, even if you could do smbmount, I wouldn't recommend it to performance gain using cifs. with RHEL5 and CentOS 5, cifs is finally starting to take hold when mounting SMB based shares.
