How long does it take for a reverse dns entry to show once set by the planet for a given IP address?

Hmm... I've put in two trouble tickets now, one 12 hours ago and one 30 hours ago, and both said they added the RDNS entry for the IP as requested.

However, when doing a traceroute it's still showing as 42.f4.1343.static.theplanet.com

The RDNS entries I requested for IPs in the past always worked fine.

Is some element of the planet's RDNS nameservers stuck today and yesterday? Or am I missing something?

If you traceroute to www.colorprintingforum.com are you seeing colorprintingforum.com as the RDNS entry?

Nope still not up. Physically ev1 (not sure about TP) only restarted the DNS servers ~4 times a day so it would take until the next restart to take effect. At this point you have obviously passed when the DNS servers should be restarting if everything works as it should.

Hmmm... this gets stranger. It seems to have reverted on its own back to 42.f4.1343.static.theplanet.com ???

/usr/sbin/traceroute colorprintingforum.com
<snip>
10 gi1-0-1.car16.dllstx4.theplanet.com (67.18.116.67) 41.350 ms 38.552 ms gi1-0-2.car16.dllstx4.theplanet.com (67.18.116.83) 37.984 ms
11 42.f4.1343.static.theplanet.com (67.19.244.66) 38.317 ms 38.659 ms 37.951 ms

Checked via local machine, remote server, and dnsstuff.com.

Sorry to be a pain in the neck.

Looks like you're seeing cached DNS. The Time To Live on our PTR records is 1 day, so it can take that long before all of the DNS servers on the 'net expire the existing answers to that query. Give it a couple more hours and it will be all caught up.
