I have set up a Linux server with Cpanel, and I want to start hosting websites for others.

My problem is that I dont know much about running a DNS server my self.

1. I know that I need 2 nameservers and that these have to be on seperate IPs, but can I set up 2 nameservers on the same Cpanel server with different IPs or do they have to be on seperate machines?

2. When a user signs up as a customer on my service, Cpanel creates the DNS entry with A nameservers and Cnames etc. but the websites are bot accessible any way? If I place the domain on a external DNS and point it to my server it all works! What could be wrong?

3. I have read that one need to "register" his nameservers to the registrars or some thing like that? is this correct and if yes... where and how do I do this.

As you can see I would like to know some basic stuff about this. Also about registrars I can work with when selling domains to users, who is best, cheapest fastest and so on?

you do have to register your nameservers with your registrar, who is your registrar? Have a look at this see if it sheds any light http://www.whsupport.net/register_nameservers.php

They suggest you have nameservers in seperate places but it will work with both ips on you server
