Hi,
We are a customer at theplanet and currently have ~15 total control enterprise servers scattered troughout your datacenters, which is proving to be a mess. we would like to consolidate parts of these onto a new setup. We are currently in the planning phase for a new setup. I have the following questions: - We need an amd64 or EM64T capable dual or quad CPU box. what are the possibilities ? - Can we have the debian-amd64 port on this server ? - Can we have more than 6GB of memory ? - we need to run a high profile mysql server with a large cache. - this must be affordable. we cannot afford a super costly enterprise SOLARIS/SPARC environment. - We would like to order 4-5 boxes, with an internal/backend network/switch. 2 of these boxes will have NO public connection, they are backend DB servers. is this possible ? - We require this setup to be physically together as to allow the backend network. is this possible ? - If possible, can we reserve more rack units to be kept free in order to add more boxes in the SAME PHYSICAL location later to expand our cluster ? - maybe we can reserve a complete RACK just for us, is this possible ? - if we were to take the firewall option , can we administer the FW rules ourselves ? or do we have to relay our changes to theplanet support staff ? thanks for your time, radiance |

Then I believe you're starting in the wrong area. Nobody here knows what The Planet is capable of better than they themselves so, like I said, give them a call, or even submit a Sales Request, and see what they say.

You can rent a cabinet from them... Then rent the servers and have them put it in there. They dont use the bandwidth from the servers though, only from the cabinet (so you dont get 2000gb/server). But if you had a cabinet like that, Im pretty sure you could get what you wanted on the networking... Just remember you would be paying for the cabinet space PLUS the machines per month PLUS the bandwidth you use, which is going to be expensive...

If you don't see the server offering in TotalControlServers.com , Servermatrix.com, insomnia365.com or Focusseries.com then they wouldn't be offer those to you. The only way would be to rent a rack and provide those servers yourself.

2 Moderators: If you think this post should get deleted - you may do so, however I think as TP cannot provide custom orders like this there are no interest conflicts...
2 radiance: I advice you to go to the EV1.net and ask them about custom orders. They are currently having Moster series and are also flexible about custom orders with various network and physical space options. Just my opinion: perhaps because of the variety of custom orders EV1 improving slower than TP. TP is looking into automate everything, while EV1 not (at least it looks so). Both ways are good - just different business models. -------------------- Unlimited Domains Reseller accounts, Server management and much more at SultanHost.com.
