I'm not sure if I posted this in the right forum, but I belong to a gaming group that rents a server for playing Battlefield2. When I ping our server (we all pay for), the last four IP's on the trace come back with theplanet.com address to them. I don't know if the company we rent from goes through you for ISP or if my connection is just routing through you. Lately when I try and play in the evening my connection keeps on dropping. I had my ISP (comcast) check there gateways along with at&t which are coming back with good respondes. The ones I listed above I'm getting high pings all over 500ms and some more than doubled that. I'm just looking for help so I can kick back at night and play some games with everyone (stress relief).
Our server IP address is 70.86.128.194 if that helps. I kept bugging Comcast but they keep telling me that since the IP doesn't below to them, that there is nothing they could do dince I'm outside of there systems. |

If you rent directly from the planet or insomnia365 please open a support ticket so we can investigate this. If you rent from a gsp that rents from us then you should contact them first, and if they need to they'll open a ticket with us.

Thanks for the info Kevin. I'll contact our groups leader who deals with the rentals of the game servers. Thanks again you have been a great deal of help.

I had the same issue once, and, pings very high or even timeout. I opened a Ticket and Support said my server had a worm and was compromised. After the worm or script was deleted the server came back to normal. Im pretty sure someone cracked your server and installed some kind of worm, mostly they do not compromise your server since 99% there are worms to make spam using your server as open relay. Spammers do this, so all spam send goes with your server ips, and maybe even with your domain address. They execute the worms directly from the web, so check the ips that are exceuting a lot some king of url, maybe a .php one. You will see the ips are mostly from china, or asia. If you have this problem a lot you should block all ips from Asia. I was hacked 3 times or so, and they are alwaya from china. If someone knows a good way to block the ips from all asia it would be interesting since they only bring trouble and they not my users target anyway.
