Hello, I have some questions in regards to the dedicated ranked BF2 servers. I sent an email to insomnia sales dept but have yet to get an answer (Not a good sign to impress a potential customer might I say) A few things I need to know before I order a box from you. My group has had a server with the planet for a long time now so we are familiar with how things work on a regular dedicated box. Id like to know exactly how much access we get to the box when we have a ranked bf2 server loaded on it. I understand EA has allowed minimal FTP access to some files such as the punkbuster directory. I need to know if the following things are allowed/supported before I can order.
Is BF2CC supported? Is PsB auto mbl supported? Are we able to setup a Teamspeak server from this machine? Just how much access is allowed to the box? Can we setup separate FTP sites for files transfers etc? Not related to BF2 If root access to the box is denied due to running a ranked BF2 server can these things be installed first and then a ranked server installed? We currently have 2 ranked servers we are renting. Both of them allow FTP access to the server files, but of course it is at your own risk (change something your not supposed to and EA delists your server) This makes it easy for us to install the things we need to have on our server, like the BF2CC remote console, and the PsB streaming configs for PB. These are my 3 main concerns Can we install a teamspeak server? Can BF2CC be installed? (This is a must!) Can PsB streaming be installed? (This also is a must!) Im not overly concerned with having root access to the server itself if we can get what we need installed and keep it updated as updates are released for these programs. Are these things we would have access to install or can they be installed by your people if we ask for it to be installed? I've read through the forums here and found bits and pieces of answers im looking for but I need to know for sure if these things are supported, or can be installed upon request. This determines weather or not I can rent a box from insomnia. Thanks! |

BF2CC, not supported at this time, support is forthcoming.
Teamspeak, not supported at this time, you may not install yourself either due to the fact that you don't recieve FTP access. PsB is somewhat supported, you will have to feed all the varible for pb through RCON then do a pb_sv_writecfg FTP is not given at all and neither is file access. Once you request a ranked BF2 server, they reload the OS and don't give you root access back. Your GSP shouldn't be giving you anything other then FTP access to PB folder. It's a very limited situation but it's either that way or highway. -------------------- |

Can PsB streaming be installed? (This also is a must!) I agree with this 100%. Currently I am still waiting for a I365 server. They are very busy right now with all the new orders. Good for them to be busy sucks for us to wait so long to get a server. Kevin Laude is working on the BF2CC. He is on our side with this one. The AMBL I think I can get it working because of some of the posts I have read here and at PsB about it. If not then Kevin will be getting some more PM's from me. |

Well sounds to me like I have more access to my server through a rented game server then I would with a dedicated box from here.
Without PsB being supported or BF2CC I cannot see ordering a server from here then. How on earth are you supposed to control it? And if its a dedicated box why is a teamspeak server not allowed? No offense but it sounds like a ripoff to me? Sure its a dedicated box, but if you can use it for what you want then why have one? With a rented ranked server I get a free TS server. Sure the server may not be dedicated to just me, but I get a smooth 48 man server for $199 a month, full access to the server files (Yes PB folder is the only one your supposed to make changes to) and complete support for BF2CC and my server is streaming to PsB. Im bummed this stuff is not supported here! Well, I guess I'll keep checking back for updates as to when these things are going to be supported. Thanks |

Not if it's ranked, unless the hoster is breaking their contract with EA (in which case you would lose your server the instant EA found out). With that said, rent from whoever makes the most sense to you! If i365 isn't it at the moment, then don't rent from them. |

BF2CC is well on its way. We're looking into PsB as well.

I wouldn't say not very well. BF2CC is different than how we imagined it would be and it'll take a few extra crowbars to pry it into Cortex.

Unibonger I am totaly with you on this about being able to control the server.
That is why I waited until I was confidant that these guys here would take care of my needs. BF2cc and PsB are a must for me and if you are into them as much as I am them you have seen me at those forums. Thats nice that you pay $200 for one 48 man server. For that kind of money here you could have two 64 man servers here. And about the Teamspeak. Its EA rules not I365. They could care less what you do with your server but when you asked for a ranked BF2 server they need to follow EA guidlines. And that "Free" teamspeak doesn't sound that "Free" to me at 200 bucks. You seen like a real smart feller I am sure you will figure it out. |

Well I was able to find a different host with the same hardware and the exact same price and they will allow me to
use BF2CC (they will install it to all my servers!) Use PsB (again they will install it to all my servers!) Install a teamspeak server for me Setup a FTP site for my file transfers I will be allowed to host RANKED BF2 servers using their license. So yes these things ARE allowed if the server place is not to lazy to install them for you! |
