I've completed the isntallation instructions, as per the documentation - but I can't see to register backup tasks. Has anyone else had this problem before?

Was there any error messages ? Was the DiskSync Client installed on the server ?

Ian,

This is a known issue. I only know of one other customer that this is affecting.

We are awaiting the final release of the newest version of the Agent for Windows software, which will resolve this issue.

I apologize for the wait.

Ian,

We have been waiting a number of weeks, and I was assured by the software vendor that we'd have the newest release early this week. Please update your ticket and request that it be put into the backup queue. I will put it with the other ticket awaiting upgrade for the same reason that you are experiencing, and you two will be top on my list of upgrades.

Hi,

I'm also suffering from this issue and have my doubts it's a software issue (?)

We've 10 servers already running Disksync which I set up with no problems whatsoever and in all cases with those I was provided the server with no disksync installed and a 'virgin' disksync account. I was able to install the disksync software myself and connect to the server and it's worked flawlessly.

On the latest server delivered last week the first portion of disksync was already installed and a backup had been done before I received the server.

The task setup was no good for what I needed so I deleted it and attempted to start from scratch - eventually uninstalling and re-installing the disksync software from scratch.

However because a backup had already been done it's become a right mess, the disksync server now has at least 2 profiles stored against my server and the fact that the error message sounds like it's referring to 'names' indicates to me that it might just have it's knickers in a twist about the backups.

Of course we can't delete or reset the server end of our account so there's nothing I can do about this.

I've sent a ticket in requesting a new 'virgin' disksync account and I'm hopeful that if I'm able to set up a new account from scratch ( as I did with all the other servers ) this problem won't occur.

Lastly - who's idea was it to pre-install and register disksync on servers before they're delivered to the customer ??

It's a terrible idea and just leads to confusion - the guide in orbit is perfect and leads you through setting up your account from scratch, having it all half done for you when you receive the machine makes things much MORE complicated ! and open to errors occuring.

Greetings,

If I had to estimate, I would say greater than 80% of all DiskSync services are pre-installed, and pre-setup. Most users do not wish to be bothered with the details of registering their Agent with the vault, etc, and just wish to configure a task to meet their needs and a schedule.

I have never seen an instance where an autoprovisioned DiskSync service pre-installed on the customer's server caused any problems.

It sounds to me as though either A) the hostname changed at some point, or B) a backup (or a few) were made and the task was removed from the Agent.

The Agent cannot (for security reasons) purge any data from the Vault, so if you've deleted a Task from the Agent, you must also open a ticket to request it be deleted from the Vault.

Please submit a ticket so I can research your specific case.

Thanks!

Any progress with the software Justin, as this was the main reason I went for a TC server?

Cheers,
Ian

I have submitted a ticket : 680385PLNT - it was answered by you inititally on 13/04 and hasn't been responded to since despite 3 updates by myself.

This appears to be a Windows 2003 service pack 1 issue - we didn't realise at first but we have now rolled out SP1 to all of our servers and NONE are now working with Discsync.

I can do the odd manual backup on some of the servers, some of the time - others I can't back up at all, the other servers had been working fine for months until SP1 was installed so I'm sure that is the problem.

How much longer for this software update ? things are getting really desparate here and I'm sitting on a timebombe just waiting for it to go off.

Thanks.

I don't think it is a Windows 2003 SP1 issue per se. I had two of my servers updated to it and DiskSync worked flawlessly during that time.

I've cancelled my DiskSync but that was due to other non-technical issues.

Did you set anything on your SP1 apart from the standard update ?

It will definitely be nice to be able to pinpoint the issue and correct it once and for all.

Please see the announcement post in this forum for the URL to download the Windows Agent 5.02 upgrade.

This should fix all problems currently encountered by users on Windows Server operating systems.

First signs are good . . . . .

Have just installed it on a first server that hasn't been working and have been able to do a manual backup without problems.

Many Thanks Justin and sorry for giving you a hard time icon_smile.gif

No worries, that's what I'm here for. icon_smile.gif

Sorry it took so long to test and release the new version of the software.
