Ok I’m new to setting up a server. And I’ve run into a problem.
My main domain name seems to work. However, when I create clients and domains for them, they don’t seem to work. When I try to setup a domain name, I get a box saying The domain resolves to another IP address (###.###.###.##). Please correct DNS settings. The # is a IP other then mine. So how do I fix this? I suspect I havn’t set something up correctly. |

You need to change the DNS records for the domain to tell the internet where the domain is. Go to your registar and create an A record for domain.com with your ip, then create another for www.domain.com and then it should start to work after the dns updates (which can take upwards of 12-48 hours).

Ok Let me get this strait. Let’s say my main domain name is abc.com with names servers NS1.ev1servers.net & NS2.ev1servers.net. abc.com is the name I used to create my account. It’s also the main domain name I want to run on the web. This would be my domain name. But now for my other domains or client domain such as client1.com. Client1.com should have name severe’s NS1.abc.com & NS2.abc.com?

Well, I had EV1 help me with the DNS issue. They set up one of my domains for me. The info looks all the same as to how I had it. But they had me go to the members area and set it up under administrator. Plus I had to wait for it to propagate.
Well now the domain name does load up a page, but it looks like it’s just loading up the site from my main account domain name even though it has its own account. Any idea’s? |

What domain are you having trouble with? Is the domain set up in plesk, AND the DNS set up in the appropriate place (whatever nameserver is authoritative for that domain)? Check at dnsstuff.com, or do a whois on the domain, then use dig to directly check the nameserver for the records for that domain.

Well, it looks like I have it all figured out now. (Ev1 has been great with their support). It was going to the main IP address that was exclusive and not to my shared IP.
Looks like I’m starting get a better understanding of setting up all the domains. I just wasn’t aware that I had to set them up in my members control panel and the long wait. Just carouse sense this is my first time running a server, but are all servers like this, where I have to set it up in a secondary control panel other then cpanle/plesk ? Is their a way to having to bypass this step? Such as if I wanted to have someone else setup accounts, but not give them access to my members.ev1.net section? |

If you run your own nameservers, you will completely bypass EV1 members area.
