I performed a Google search for server monitoring. As expected several billion links came up.
What I need is either a service, or a piece of software, that will page me when my server goes down. No shortage of options out there, so I'd like to know who you experts use. Huge thanks, James |

I've been very happy with http://www.server-monitoring.co.uk - I know that other people recommend http://www.alertra.com
Both got a free 30-day trial period, sign up - have some controlled downtime and check them out -------------------- Let's call it an accidental feature.

Greetings:
We developed a system for NTT/Verio's enterprise division, and set it up so that it compares to Alertra. Some find it of value; others do not. Thank you. -------------------- Peter M. Abraham, Senior Server Administrator

Alertra... sounds like a sinus medication :-)
However, they're exactly what I'm looking for and I signed up. Huge thanks for the info! James |

If you don't want to pay for a service, nagios is a nice util you can setup at home, or on another box, and it'll monitor practically anything.

Thanks. I'm going to use both, the freebee and the paid service. My server was down for nine hours overnight and I didn't have a clue. Some very unhappy people on my hands today...
Thanks to all for your usual excellent advice. |

Excellent. I am pleased to hear that because I signed up. $20 is small price to pay for a peaceful nights sleep.
As long as they get the number right, so Mrs. Schwarts doesn't start getting phone calls at 3 am from a disembodied voice saying "your server is down", click. Huge thanks for the feedback :-) |
