I’m trying to get some use out of my server’s domain name and getting a bit of a headache.
Everything is fine for accounts/domains created in WHM including subdomains and self signed SSL which all use my name server IPs: “ns1.maindomain.tld” and “ns2.maindomain.tld”. I’m trying to create https://secure.maindomain.tld so far I’ve created a new account “secure.maindomain.tld” and assigned an IP. I cannot get it to resolve. I’m waiting for it to resolve at http://secure.maindomain.tld before creating any certificates. (http://IP works fine). Is my problem not having a SOA record for “maindomain.tld” on my machine? I have SOA records for the 2 name servers and “secure.maindomain.tld”. I had to use my registrar to make “ns1.maindomain.tld” and “ns2.maindomain.tld” work but that is just for name servers right? It may be something simple and I’m just being a newb since this is my first dedicated server Thanks! |

CPanel will create a DNS Zone for secure.domain.tld. This is incorrect. You must manually delete the secure.domain.tld zone, and add the appropriate 'A' (host) records into the domain.tld zone. Mainly this would be:
secure A 1.2.3.4 Where 1.2.3.4 is the IP of secure.domain.tld. -------------------- There once was a Devil that forced a Penguin to throw an Apple through a Window -- and Netware just sat there because it's crap.
------------------------ [11:01:50] [11:01:55] [11:01:56] * sirtwist realizes that sounds really weird |

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
I think I need to let the dust settle and see if it all resolves though. So far this is what I've done: When I setup the server I had pointed "maindomain.tld" to ns1/ns2.rackshack.net. Then I configured my name servers and setup several accounts. Everything seemed to be working but I had left "maindomain.tld" pointing to rackshack. I tried to setup the "secure.maindomain.tld" A record in the EV1 member area. It was my first time there so it created the record at "ns1/ns2.ev1servers.net". I wasn't sure about the RS-->EV1 switch. So at my registrar I pointed "maindomain.tld" to "ns1/ns2.ev1servers.net" instead of "ns1/ns2.rackshack.net" . I had not manually created a zone for "maindomain.tld" on my server (have now). It seems strange to point "maindomain.tld" to "ns1/ns2.maindomain.tld" so I'm going to wait for it to resolve to the EV1 name servers first Thanks again, I'll post when it starts working. |

This is now resolving fine to my own nameservers. I had to manually created my own “maindomain.tld” to add the "secure" A record to and delete the zone “secure.maindomain.tld” that Cpanel had created Thanks |
